For the first time, the crashing of a spaceship is a cause for celebration.
On Tuesday, the first ever attempt at moving an asteroid in space was made by the Dart mission.
On Tuesday, the scientists at the two universities applauded and hugged each other after Dart, the size of a vending machine, crashed into Dimorphos, a football field-sized asteroid that posed no risk to Earth.
Online viewers had a field day.
A person created an account with the name DART the asteroid slayer.
I am about to ruin this asteroid's career.
This one is for the dinosaurs.

There were many jokes about the dinosaurs.

Bill Nelson, the administrator of Nasa, said on Monday that the mission is not a movie plot.

Rather than blow Dimorphos up, the agency wanted the collision to distract it.

Researchers want to know if the impact has changed the asteroid.

The asteroid Didymos is about 800 metres in diameter and is expected to have the Dimorphos's circle shortened by about 1%.

The successful planetary defence demonstration was visible from Hawaii and the South African Astronomical Observatory.

Dart was launched last November and has spent the last 10 months flying in space.
